Aviemore, Scotland (2006)
The annual conference of the North Sea Commission and the Interreg North Sea programme was held at the outstandingly vulgar MacDonald Highland resort in the ski resort town of Aviemore in the Scottish highlands region.
I was there to present GeoShare in the company of colleague Ivar Petter who were also there to arrange a workshop on ICT in the upcoming Interreg replacement programme – Objective III.

Aline, Heather, Rune, Basil and me on a trip to Edinburgh to survey the capital of Scotland as a potential future place to study. Flying in through Prestwick, which carries all the hallmarks of a Ryanair airport, we also got to criss-cross most of the interior of the Scottish lowlands by train in order to get to our final destination.

Another business meeting took me for a quick trip to Inverness. The highland capital at the end of the famous Loch Ness appeared far more appealing to me than on previous visits to the city. Mainly because I have failed to go to the nicer parts of the city before. Pubs, cider and good food accompanied by good friends and colleagues ensured me once more that life – even on business trips – is worth living.

A project at work brought me to Edinburgh in the beginning of February. Still shaken by the climate change between Norway and Brazil I set out together with a number of exellent friends and colleagues to enjoy the Scottish capital during the Six Nations Rugby Tournament.

We hired a van – with a driver – to take us around the Scottish countryside – via Stirling to Loch Lomond. The lady on the phone told me that his name was Big Jock. and instantly I regretted the whole thing…
